Frequently asked questions

What is a snowpark?

A terrain park/snowpark is a dedicated area within

a ski resort that features various obstacles and features for snowboarders and freestyle skiers.

Typically, snowparks are equipped with jumps, boxes, rails and other features that are designed to challenge and entertain skiers and riders. Based on the size and difficulty level of elements, parks are divided into entry level parks, intermediate parks, advanced parks and pro parks.

Putting it simply - more advanced riders and skiers require larger elements to be entertained.

Why is it important to have

a professionally built freestyle infrastructure?

A professionally built freestyle infrastructure is important for a number of reasons:

  • Safety - freestyle infrastructure is built for users who are willing to perform relatively dangerous and difficult tricks. A snowpark or a cross course that is built in an unprofessional way increases the risk of accident or injury.

  • Properly prepared snow surface - freestyle infrastructure that is built and taken care of by professionals is prepared daily to offer the best snow surface that is possible to achieve at any given day. Improper snow surface can lead to injuries and equipment damage.

  • Variety of elements - professionally built and maintained freestyle infrastructure will offer a variety of snow elements that will keep users entertained over a long period of time. Diversified elements will also help riders and skiers develop their skills, which is crucial for that group of customers.

  • Shape and size of the elements - professionally built freestyle infrastructure is equipped with right size and properly shaped features that result in safety and flow. All the elements and their location has to be properly planned while keeping the terrain and end users on mind. This allows to minimise the risk of injuries or accidents.

  • Legal matters - professionally built park should comply with all local regulations to provide a safe environment for end users.

To sum it up - professionally built freestyle infrastructure are important not only to provide safe venue for skiers and riders but also to keep them satisfied, entertained and allow them to develop their skills over time.

How much snow do I need for

a snowpark or Playcross course?

The answer to that question is mainly based on the terrain we are going to operate on and our target audience, their skill level and marketing goals. As a rule of a thumb, the steeper the terrain and larger the obstacles, the more snow you are going to need to build a safe and fun terrain park

or Playcross course. A proper freestyle infrastructure requires more snow than regular downhill slope taking up the same area. Thanks to our experience with working with limited snow amounts, we can guarantee that the demand for that resource is going to be the smallest possible. Our venues are built in a way that utilises all the natural terrain in an area that we work.

Are snowparks profitable?

Yes, freestyle infrastructure can be profitable for the ski resort. Snowparks and Playcross courses are becoming more popular among skiers and snowboarders who are more adventurous. More and more ski resorts are investing in such infrastructure in order to attract more customers and increase their revenue stream.

Freestyle infrastructure can generate profit in a number of ways. First, snowparks and Playcross courses attract additional customers, otherwise not interested with classical downhill skiing or snowboarding. Additionally, such venues attract sponsors who are willing to organise sporting and lifestyle events, that can directly translate into increased revenue stream. Above all that, freestyle infrastructure is really popular with kids and youths, who are coming to the mountains with parents and guardians that are potentially interested in other areas of ski resort operations such as ski rental, ski schools or restaurants.

It is important to remember, that creating freestyle infrastructure requires investment in equipment, employees and maintenance that generates costs. However, a well built and managed freestyle infrastructure can be an important business element of a ski resort that translates into increased revenue stream.
